The Department of
Critical Care Medicine of the University Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNH)
provides comprehensive medical management for individuals with critical
illness or after major surgery. These patients require advanced
monitoring and care in the Intensive Care Unit setting. The full
spectrum of ICU services is provided by specialty-trained intensivists
who are present in the hospital 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
The closed ICU model of care is utilized at University Hospital of
Heraklion. The ICU of PAGNH has 11 beds. The equipment of the ICU
corresponds to the modern technology and includes sufficient monitoring
and support systems for the critically ill. The ICU medical staff
consists of 8 intensivists and 4 trainees in intensive care medicine.
In addition fellows from others specialties are trained during their
rotation.
